How to join us
Fill out our membership application form
We will take care of the termination with your old health insurance company. Exception: Privately insured persons who switch to statutory health insurance must do this themselves.
Inform your registration office, for example your employer, the employment agency or pension insurance company, immediately about the change of health insurance.
We will later send an electronic membership certificate to your employer.
What you need to bear in mind: Notice of termination period and commitment period
A two-month notice of termination period applies. This means that if you have applied for membership with us, you will initially remain a member of your previous health insurance company. We will check your application and inform your old health insurance company about the change.
If you have only recently changed your health insurance company, you are generally bound to it for a total of 12 months. Only then you are allowed to switch again. This commitment period is checked both by the current health insurance company and by us.
However, there are cases in which the deadlines do not apply.
When notice of termination period and commitment period do not apply
Changing health insurance company if you have a new employer
- If you are compulsorily insured and start a new job, for example, you can change your health insurance company immediately. You can exercise your right of choice up to 14 days after starting your employment. You do not have to observe any notice of termination periods or commitment periods.
- If you were previously unemployed and start a new job, you can also change your health insurance company immediately.
- If you previously had voluntary statutory insurance and start a job with compulsory insurance, you can also switch immediately.
However, if you switch to employment with an income above the annual income threshold, you will continue to be exempt from insurance. In this case, you must observe the two-months’ notice of termination period. This also applies if you switch to private health insurance.
Special right of termination in the event of an increase in contributions
If your health insurance company increases the supplementary contribution, you can terminate the contract even if the commitment period has not yet expired. You must then apply to change health insurance company by the end of the month in which the supplementary contribution rate is increased. The deadline of two months to the end of the month applies before you can join the new health insurance company.
Notice of termination in the case of a current operational tariff
If you have taken out an optional tariff, you are still bound to your health insurance company during the term of the tariff. The commitment period is between one and three years, depending on the tariff. Exceptions apply in the case of a special right of termination in the event of an increase in the supplementary contribution. However, this does not apply to insured persons who have taken out the optional sickness benefit tariff.
Change of insurance status
If you were previously compulsorily insured and exceed the annual gross earnings limit of 73.800 Euro in the current year of employment, you can also take out voluntary statutory health insurance. The commitment period does not apply if you then also want to change health insurance company.
